Another low-cost carrier, Germanwings, arrives in Malta
The inaugural flights of German low-cost carrier Germanwings landed at the Malta International Airport today.
Germany’s major low-cost airline is the third low-cost carrier serving the Malta route, following Irish carrier Ryanair, which flies to and from London Luton, Pisa and Dublin, and Italian carrier Meridiana, which operates between Malta and Bologna.
The airline will be flying to and from Cologne and Stuttgart, with two weekly flights from each airport, on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
It is expected to carry around 13,000 visitors to the Maltese islands in the coming year as it gives a boost to the services offered to the German market, which is the second biggest market for the local tourism industry.
Spanish low-cost carrier Click Air is expected to start flying between Malta and Barcelona in June, while Easy Jet’s interest in Malta seems to have cooled off.
